From the first few minutes of looking out of the prison transport at the horror and carnage that the Koreans have released upon a 2027 version of the USA, I knew that Homefront’s storyline would blow my mind away. Developed by KAOS studios using Unreal technology, Homefront has turned out to be an awesome FPS.

The year’s 2027 and it’s been two years since the Koreans launched an EMP over the USA. People have been removed from their homes and put into prison. In Homefront the protagonist is Robert Jacobs. The game starts off with Robert lying in bed in the destroyed USA of 2027. Immediately there is a knock at the door and suddenly a Korean trooper bursts through pinning you up against the wall. He is followed in by a Korean general. The general begins to speak about your loyalty to the Koreans as you are meant to be recruited. Soon after your thrown down the stairs and put into a prison transport. While driving to the prison, the bus your in is crashed into by a truck knocking out the troopers. At the windscreen two Americans climb in helping you out, and so the mission with the resistance to liberate the USA has begun.

Homefront delivers new, never before seen military equipment. Since it’s the year 2027 developers took into account that the technology would be way more advanced than in present times. This technology is displayed in Homefront through varied technology. Firstly, there is Goliath. Goliath is a massive six wheeled ATV tank. It’s equipped with a machine gun as well as four rocket launchers. The best part about Goliath, is that is Goliath is unmanned. Goliath is used a drone, therefore if destroyed, it doesn’t harm any humans. The Goliath “Targeter”. At certain points in the game you are given control of Goliath, and can pull out a visor, allowing you to target enemies that Goliath immediately destroys. Goliath may be great but other than the UAV near the end of the game, the developers haven’t used the idea of new technology in 2027.

Homefront is a brilliant FPS but it hasn’t shown its full potential. Even though the Unreal Engine has been used to put the game to its full potential, the campaign hasn’t.

When we first heard about Homefront, we were expecting an epic, awesome FPS, but we were instead disappointed. The use of advanced technology wasn’t fully expressed, the only advanced technology was Goliath. The campaign wasn’t fully expressed either, instead of ending with a bang instead it ended disappointingly. Even though the battle on the Golden Gate bridge was spectacular, it shouldn’t have been how the game ended.

Overall, Homefront had more ups than downs and still blew my mind away. So with just abit of work it could be excellent. According to many sources Homefront’s multiplayer is brilliant so we have yet to experience it.
